  • The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the widespread use of face masks to prevent the transmission of the virus. To enforce face mask compliance in public places, this project presents a detailed abstract for a Face Mask Detection system using Raspberry Pi, Proteus simulation, body temperature sensing, and door open/close functionality.
  • The proposed system utilizes a Raspberry Pi, a single-board computer, as the central control unit. It employs a camera module to capture real-time video feed of individuals entering a specific area, such as a store or a building. The system then performs image processing and computer vision algorithms to detect whether a person is wearing a face mask or not.
  • Additionally, the system incorporates body temperature sensing functionality. It employs temperature sensors to measure the body temperature of individuals entering the monitored area. If a person’s body temperature exceeds a predefined threshold, it indicates a potential fever and can be an early symptom of COVID-19.
  • To facilitate access control and ensure compliance, the system includes a door open/close mechanism. When a person approaches the entrance, the system analyzes their face mask status and body temperature. If the person is wearing a mask and their body temperature is within the acceptable range, the system triggers the door to open and allows entry. Otherwise, if the person is not wearing a mask or has an elevated body temperature, the system keeps the door closed and denies access.
  • The integration of Raspberry Pi and Proteus simulation provides an efficient and cost-effective platform for implementing and testing the system. It enables real-time monitoring of face mask compliance, body temperature screening, and automated access control.
  • The proposed Face Mask Detection system offers a practical solution for ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in public spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic. By combining face mask detection, body temperature sensing, and door open/close functionality, the system helps enforce preventive measures and minimize the risk of viral transmission.
