Project Description
The Smart Table for Blind Person is an assistive technology project developed using Raspberry Pi to help visually impaired individuals read printed documents independently.
In this system, a camera mounted on the smart table continuously monitors the document area. When a document is placed, the system automatically captures the image and processes it using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract text. The extracted text is then converted into speech output, allowing blind users to listen to the document content.
One of the key features of this project is multi-language support. The system can read documents written in Hindi, English, and Marathi, making it suitable for a wide range of users. The entire system works offline, ensuring privacy, fast response, and reliability.
This project demonstrates the effective integration of computer vision, embedded systems, and text-to-speech technology. It is highly suitable for engineering final year projects, diploma projects, and science exhibitions, and it addresses a real-world problem with strong social impact.
